There are so many businesses that have donated to our fundraisers and we want to thank them all for their kindness and continued support,” Peters said. “Without the support from local businesses and the community, this would still be a dream, but in October that dream will become a reality. “Everyone has worked hard and I’m excited for Angela and each of these dancers to have this experience,” Wockenfuss said. The dancers will have the opportunity to perform and entire families will enjoy a Florida vacation,” said Wockenfuss.Īs the trip is drawing closer, the team expanded practice sessions to twice a week this summer and will continue to practice once a week during September to put the finishing touches on their performance. It will be an unforgettable Disney experience in more ways than one. “This has been a real labor of love and we can’t wait to see the finished product on the stage. “Our performance can only be 24 minutes long,” said Peters, so she and “Coach Annette” have been working on fine-tuning their dance moves and transitioning from one song to the next, making sure to stay within that time frame for their stage performance time.Īnnette Wockenfuss, assistant teacher and choreographer, has been dancing for over 45 years and has danced at Disney before. They will spend several days enjoying the warm temperatures and the park’s amentities and will take the stage on Thursday, Oct. Some families are driving to Florida while others are opting for flights. Twinkle Toes was approved in January and then picked their date for the fall trip and performance. Twinkle Toes Dance Studio does have younger dancers (beginning at age three) on their team, but they must be seven to meet Disney’s dance requirements. There aren’t any boys on the dance team right now, but they are invited and allowed to participate. “The Little Mermaid’s” Ursula has a lavender color and dark purple represents Maleficent from “Sleeping Beauty.” Each dancer was allowed to choose their costume color. Royal blue represents the Evil Queen (from “Snow White”) and red is for Cruella de Vil (of “101 Dalmations”). “We could not use Disney music or look like a Disney character so we chose colors which will represent our villain characters,” Peters said. The team had to submit a video of two dances with music and costumes to be approved by Disney. The songs are “Sassy,” “Cold Hearted Snake,” “Villain,” “Dangerous Woman,” “I’m a Lady” and “Bad.” Their dance genres will include jazz, tap, lyrical and hip-hop.

The dance team selected a “villain theme” and picked six songs to represent them. Hotel accommodations and tickets are close to $2,000 for each family, and they will have to rent a bus in Florida to transport them to the venue location which is $1,000.Īlso in preparation, practices started once a week last summer and continued into the fall and through winter. Costumes and shoes are $230-$330 for each dancer. “This is an expensive trip,” said Peters. From car washes at Murray Motors, basket raffles at the Friendship Community Center in Beech Creek, to sandwich sales and Bingos, the team has been thankful for so much support from local businesses and the community.

Everyone embraced the idea and fundraising activities began to help cover the costs.
